Ceramic tableware manufacturer Felt+Fat launches a new “BadThings Happen in Philadelphia” product line to raise funds for various causes throughout the state.

Philadelphia, PA – Handmade in Philadelphia, Felt+Fat is well known for its unique, modern brand of ceramic tableware. The studio, located right in the heart of Philly’s Kensington neighborhood, has amassed a cult-like following of individuals looking for heirloom-quality designs. Founded in 2014, the company first achieved notoriety with its elegant designs used by some of the most famous chefs in the city.

These days, Nathaniel Mell, the Felt+Fat CEO, and his team have opened up a new lane for their brand through their innovative charitable contributions.

The company recently launched its new “BadThings Happen in Philadelphia” product line — a phrase made famous in September 2020 when President Trump falsely alleged during a debate that his campaign poll watchers were illegally blocked from observing the voting procedures in Philly.

Trump then went on to claim that “bad things happen in Philadelphia,” — words that sent social media into an outright frenzy and catapulted Felt+Fat into action.

Immediately, the team developed “BadThings” as a fun way for its 30,000-plus followers to support progressive changes in politics, using their collective power to do “bad things” for good causes.

Felt+Fat raised over $2,000 to support TurnPaBlue and the senate campaigns of Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock with proceeds from their sales.

The company created special-edition ceramic mugs and tumblers, while calling on their followers to get out and vote. Evidently, people listened! On November 3, 2020, Philadelphia –a crucial swing state in the election — flipped blue, proving that many hands make light work.

Now, what started as a simple campaign for the brand has turned into a long-term philanthropic endeavor to support other organizations and causes that align with its mission and values. “BadThings Happen in Philadelphia” continues to evolve and expand its reach throughout the local community.

When asked about the success of the “BadThings” line, Nate Mell responded:

“During the 2020 election season, BadThings was just a way for us to take a stand and do our part. As someone who both lives in the city and runs a successful business, I know how great the people of Philly are. So when I heard the president speaking during the debates — accusing my city of being something that it isn’t — I knew we couldn’t stay silent.”

“Our products sold out almost immediately, so I knew we had done some good… but I also knew we could do more. The money we raised showed that Philly pride is alive and well, and together, we have the kind of power to bring about true change in this world,” Mell stated.
